Drama and dance for this young age group (4-7 year olds) needs to be engaging and fun: we aim to make the children smile as they learn. The class usually begins with a physical and/or vocal warm-up, followed by a number of drama-related games that encourage the children to use their voices and imagination. Our lesson plans are never too fixed; if the children are particularly enjoying a game or exercise, we will stick with and develop it.

After a ten-minute break about half-way through the class (for which we ask parents to supply them with a drink and light snack) we will do some simple dance steps to music, which varies from week to week, and end the class with another game. There is no doubt that as well as enjoying the classes immensely the children’s demeanour and confidence improves from term to term.

Some of the time during the second half of any term is often spent preparing for an end-of-term show.
